Nothing too terribly exciting about our trip today except that I cant seem to leave well enough alone!
Since the dogs were off for so many days while I worked the holiday show I decided a nice easy ten mile run would work well. And it did but they probably didn't need the extra weight I brought, then the extra wood I picked up on the trail (a good 40+ pounds of it!), then the extra trail breaking when we took a 'quick' exploration side trip...
Every one came in looking well but tired. I thought the added weight would help slow them down, which it did and would have worked nicely if I hadn't thrown all that trail breaking on top of it!
And when I mean trail breaking I'm talking about completely virgin trails where, in some sections, I loose sight of most of my team as they make their way blindly through shoulder high grasses.
They are learning some nice commands through all this though. Reba, Juno and Ichabod are quickly becoming my go-to dogs. Reba is great as partner for Juno. Both of them take commands very well with Juno being the more reliable of the two. And Ichabod, wow, what cant I say about that guy! Breaking out virgin trail isn't his best job but if we have to double back this boy is ALL business! He charges right through and leads us quickly out of what ever mess we seem to find ourselves in.
Hopefully our next trip will be a bit more organized and I can finally break though a new trail to link up with one of our old loops. I plan on bringing weight again but not the extra wood... my sled was so heavy today that I had trouble tipping it back up when I leaned it over for weight since I couldn't set my hook. It makes a great anchor when its on its side!
