A few degrees warmer...

Seems ironic that I was just talking about the holidays, being thankful and giving gifts all year. Well, we continue to be thankful even if the weather still isnt cooperating but we were given a great gift today right out of the blue of food scrap donations from our friend. These will help greatly help spice up the outside dogs regular food and add a bit of a different taste to their water to encourage them to drink more. I also made salmon for dinner, that left lots of skin and bones to add fat and protein to their water. The dogs inside wont be getting any until its warm enough for them to go out. There is no reason to give them extra calories while they are resting inside most of the day at 65 degrees but as soon as they are able to go out there we will have plenty of extra bait for them all.

Its frustrating not knowing when the weather will break. This morning it was still -50 and has only risen a few degrees above that all day. It would feel down right balmy if it could just get up to -30! James tells me to stop looking at the thermometer, it doesn't do much but add to my worry about how long it will have to be like this. Its also adding to the mounting depression felt by all of us... even some of the dogs are getting that cabin fever stare though they are coping much better than James and I.

Mercury was moved inside today and is allowed to be loose with the other dogs. I thought I would give it a try since Im uncertain how long we will all have to be penned up. Hes doing much better than I expected and has latched to me as he usually does. Its so nice to have him near and to know that I wont have to worry about fighting if hes going to stay next to me so I can watch him.

These extremes certainly puts things into perspective and makes one grateful for less than ideal weather. Strange how -30 and -20 feels so warm after living and working in -50.

Still on my laptop so no pictures today. I hope to get up to the office to download some we took today and post them tomorrow...
