I'm supposed to be heading to bed, as the dogs are doing right now in the yard, but my brain wont be still from today's events.
We had a very packed day of running dogs with clients on the trails and we are all very, very spent. We were originally taking one group of four out but another group of four called at the last minute and we were able to fit them in with the last bit of daylight. Even after 25 miles of trail the dogs were still coming in fast on our last trip back, with one adult in each sled! I don't know where they get their energy but they keep asking us for more!
Many of the pups were standouts today but Boreas was faltering at the end and Clyde was just about spent after our first tour of the day (Clyde and Coyote only took the first trip then waited for us at the truck). We think the heat was bothering Clyde since he has twice the coat as the others and even with evening well upon us now it is still 20 above zero outside. Very uncommon for this time of year but we are making the most of it!
We did manage to get in another more personal run on Saturday with all the dogs for about 15 miles. A portion of that was breaking trail but it was pretty easy stuff. Not too much of a challenge, though in areas I was almost riding the sled on its side negotiating the frozen four wheeler ruts made this summer. It was a blast!!
The dogs and I will get a few days off and try to get back on schedule for another personal run on Wednesday then get ready for more clients this weekend, weather permitting. The forecast is calling for colder temperatures but we never know what will be until the day actually comes.
For now I have two solid days scheduled for desk work and playing catch up with my work load here. I never thought I would say this but I'm actually looking forward to down time in the office. The team and their mushers have worked their little tails off these past few weeks!
Photos to come tomorrow when I'm much more awake... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
