Back on the drag... almost...

What a relief it was to get out again! I intended this run to be short but the dogs convinced me otherwise. I should have been more solid in my intentions of a short run but seeing them act so crazy at the turn around point I thought for sure we could go longer. I forgot to turn my GPS on, again, but our track, as traced in to Google Earth, shows us at about 8 or 9 miles. I was hoping for five but, that will have to do...

The trail in was beautiful! Soft, packed... just gorgeous! I was beginning to think its was going to be a another drag mat run but when we turned toward the flats it started getting rugged and I had no need to slow them down. The new snow was doing that quite well.

Not sure if it was due to the trails being punchy or what but Aquila came back with a bit of a limp, and Nyx too. Both of them seem find now so it was probably pretty minor. Hera, Griffin and Nyx were on and off their tugs. The others may have been as well but those were the dogs I was watching close for signs of tiredness. Buddy even looked a little weird coming in. He had a funny gait that Ive never seen him use before but straighted out after a while.

The field trails really kicked their butts on the way back and I loaded Aquila for about a mile so she could rest. The dogs still pulled with her added weight but I could see a bit of a difference, not much, but it was there.

I believe its Iggy's turn to get back on the main line and maybe Gemini's too. Will have to set up the gang line to accommodate 12 instead of 10. The snow is much better able to handle a larger team but setting the hooks is still not 100% dependable. Still, it is much better than it was!

Wish I could have gotten pictures today but was more excited to be out on the trails than to stop to dig my camera out. I'm absolutely desperate this year to have some camp out runs even if its only for snacks or a quick bon-fire. Anything to stop the dogs and get some new winter photos.

The dogs and I haven't been able to get out much this year and the runs we have been able to do have been too quick and too fast. I keep telling myself to roll with the punches and just enjoy it, enjoy life and those around me...

... but its so hard, Ive been so incredibly spoiled in past years with mounds of snow and TONS of trail time. Ah, those were the days!
