Crowds

We handled our first crowd today at the Yukon Quest. Was kind of like a half show but ended up being an all day thing since we had even more work to do to the fencing to get things completely set up.

After today we shouldn't have to move anything around again. The only other set up we will need to arrange will be little details and not too much of the major stuff like moving fencing, straw bales and dog houses. Well, there are still log houses to build but that will come in time. Hopefully we can make some headway on that this weekend.

A huge thanks to James L and to Ben for helping out today. Its been so great having those two help and another thanks to the Yukon Quest of course. All the ladies who work there have been super and when we brought the pups out they were even more of a help... how could they resist! :)

Our next show will be next Friday then we have to find out the details of yet another show before we will be on all summer.

Our big backyard!

I was very surprised how much fun I had today. Ive been worried about the time constraints and all the extra hours I will be putting in but today pretty much broke the ice for me. I feel a lot better about doing this and the visitors we talked to today were super.

What pleased me the most is that we received our very first substantial donations out of the blue! We were talking about all the projects we had going on with the foster dogs, the military and the Sled Dog Sanctuary and when two people opened their wallets to us it was such a blessing. We didn't even have our donation box out yet!

The pups received a lot of interest of course and many wanted to adopt them on the spot. Its going to be hard to choose who goes where but that is what the Fairbanks Animal Shelter is for. They will cover the details of their fees and any requirements the adopter needs to fulfill. We will fill our role as the foster home to care and love them until they are adopted. We only have a tiny bit of say on where these pups go but once our Sled Dog Sanctuary has officially opened then we can be a bit more selective.

Pandora with one of the babies

Gaea, Pandora, Juno, Ajax and Chronos can barely keep their eyes open. They had a fun filled day meeting all sort of people and really loved being out in the big pens next to the river. This is really an ideal spot for our guys and will be fun to work outside most of the summer.

Very long tiring day... the sun is shining high in the sky but its nearly 8:00pm when this was taken. Our donation box in the forefront, donations already received before we had time to get our display paperwork up

James L works on the final details of the perimeter fence in the adult pen while our 'supervisor' Juno walks around inside checking things out.
