Okay, so I can spill the beans now about some of this stuff...
First, we are seriously thinking of having pups this season, possibly expecting them at the end of February if all goes right. We are still debating on the female but have chosen Thani as the definite sire. Ever since he could work in harness he has proven his strength to us over and over and we have come to realize that his genes should definitely be passed on through our kennel as we press forward helping the shelter dogs and our touring visitors looking to go on an adventure with our freighting huskies.
As always we are looking to have only a few in this next litter since all new life who we welcome into our kennel will be staying with us, as is our responsibility, especially in this time of over population of dogs in our animal shelters.
Every time we have a litter (which is rare) thoughts come to mind that it is a shame we didn't have more big dogs to choose from in our community and through the shelter system. The ones we take into foster care are great working dogs but almost all are far too small for our big adventures on the trail. Those tiny ones do what they can but nothing beats the raw power of a 75 to 100lb sled dog!!
And if we do end up with more than a handful of pups we will make due and welcome them all into the family... it wont be hard! :)
The other plans in the works are for building a dog trailer as an addition to the dog truck. Our kennel operation is expanding and our thoughts lead down to the Parks Hwy property and all the adventures we have planned there. What started as a tiny kennel operation is looking so much bigger these days, but we are still holding onto the unique bond we have with each member of our team and with the boys turning three this year its so amazing to realize what wonderful dogs they have become!!
The new trailer may have to stay on hold until spring, or at least until break up. We have a LOT of things to do around here and running dogs is taking up a BIG part of that schedule. Also, I want to make sure that this trailer is built right and not rushed so it can last another 7+ years as our original dog truck has done. Its amazing its held up so darn well all this time with only needing minimal repairs.
Also, the Spock Shop still needs tending to... thanks to the generous donation by Kiwanis we were able to get some much needed supplies for the insulation and the interior walls. We had a wonderful electrician come out to finish the wiring and we are so darn close to putting up the ceiling now!
Unfortunately we will have to wait to blow the ceiling insulation until it gets warmer. That may set us back a bit in the warmth department but as soon as the plywood is up on the ceiling (right now its only protected by the metal roof and a thin layer of plastic) we should be able to capture much more heat with our quaint little wood stove.
We have a few more exciting announcements! We are now retailing for Boomerang Tags (www.boomerangtags.com) and for Nordkyn Outfitters (www.Nordkyn.com). We just LOVE all their products and are very happy to be retailing for them!
We will be opening up ordering options soon on our kennel website but plan to take building our little store a bit slow. There are so many products needed in the mushing world that I can see how easily overwhelmed we could get in a very short time. So, as the Spock Shop nears completion we may end up starting there. And of course we will be shipping all around the world so you don't have to come out to the kennel directly to order from us... :)
That's about all I can think of for the moment... I'm sure its plenty of good news to last our loyal fans for a while with so much more still to come around the bend! Don't think Ive spilled ALL the beans in this post! There is even more to come!! :)
