The weather in the mornings is still cool so we will continue our dog runs. Should be able to get out again tomorrow and maybe push a bit more miles. Their max is 3.5 right now, though I hope to get it up to 5 soon. It depends on how well every one does and what the temps are like.
They aren't pulling the four wheeler in neutral yet but that is a goal Ive got for them. Hard to do with two people on the rig and only five dogs, though when I get Thani, Boreas and Remus together they pull pretty well no matter how heavy the load.
Maude is coming along really well. Shes gaining weight faster than Eli did and is running in the team on a regular basis. She may be considered a senior but she sure doesn't act like one! She loves to pull and so far has done a great job in lead.
Everyone up front has been getting the usual loose dog training and doing quite well. Eli had a bit of trouble with a loose chow a few days ago and showed quite a bit of fear but Hermes tried to drag her into it and beyond until the loose dog became aggressive.
I don't mind if my guys don't back down from a direct charge by a loose dog. I will be right on their heals getting the rascal out of there, but I am constantly amazed when a loose dog doesn't hesitate to stand up to a dog as tough as Thani! Hermes impressed me this time out in that he wasnt afraid to stand up for his team either!
Its great training for the trail though and gets them ready to pass other teams and more loose dogs when the weather is warmer and more people are out around the parking area taking walks.
We will have to see what the weather will do and keep working this cooler weather. I hope the snow will come early (which is always my wish) and if everything goes right we may have a nice jump on the season and easily hit those 10 and 15 mile trails once winter comes.
