Practise Run

Worked out a practice run today for our scheduled tour tomorrow. I will let on who our tour client is later, maybe after I have a few photos to share...

We took out Nita's old freight sled that is much longer than what I'm used to but is surprisingly comfortable. The basket is also much wider than a standard sled so I was very surprised how much I enjoyed it. So much so that I am looking into getting Dave and Joanne (http://www.laughinghusky.com/) to make me one that I can drive on a regular basis and still use it full time on our tours.

The one I have been using is also from them and is the standard but the bigger my dogs get the more I realize we need custom gear... a custom dog box, custom dog houses, custom harnesses and now a custom sled! I'm already envisioning loading it up with a ton of firewood, camping supplies you name it! The dogs and I are more than ready for the extra work!

So today was a bit uneventful but its always nice to get out. The dogs handled the five miles just fine and came back looking like they could do a few more laps without thinking of breaking a sweat. Miriam came along in my sled to simulate the weight of a passenger and it was nice to have the extra hands available for untangling dogs and sharing the thrill of the trail.

We are looking to get some more snow to make the ten mile trail safe enough for guests but for now the five mile path will do just fine...

No photos from today but I'm sure we will get some tomorrow to share in the next post... stay tuned!

Seems like Christmas is coming earlier and earlier for us this year. First the new property in Talkeetna, then a new dog truck, now we are looking at getting a new sled... so it seems as no surprise that Hermes got his new house a few days ago. It is a fully insulated monster mansion and he is enjoying every luxury!

I will try to get some photos of that posted soon as well. I'm hoping he can make it through the coming winters more comfortably now since he came up a bit short on the dog fur genes he could have inherited from his fathers side of the family. It makes me feel so much more at ease knowing he is sleeping in style!

Before long everyone will have a custom insulated house like his but each one takes a lot of time and effort to build so we are tackling that huge project slow but sure...
