Ganglines

Nita and I worked on our ganglines Monday night and set up a few sections specifically for the little rec sled for those clients who want to drive their own team. It will be much easier for us this way since we wont have to keep swapping around gear.

As you can see from the photo I am covered in dogs, as usual... my favorite place to be! :)

We also started the repairs on our own teams lines that night. We were hoping to get the job complete but time got away with us and when our friend Greg came over it was hard to turn away from good kitchen conversation with him and James over the EXCELLENT steak, hush puppies and onion rings that Nita had cooked up!

Down time is such an important thing and something most of us don't spend enough time on. After working so hard these past few weeks Ive made excuses to find extra time here and there to relax my body and mind. Making lines in the kitchen is also a way of relaxation though I have to be careful and not fool myself into believing that this is not also work. In order for one to stay healthy there must be a balance of all things.

So the dogs continue to have a few more days off, though I wonder the timing on this and wish we had our down time in relation to the bitter cold weather I know is coming. The boys are still crazy with the two girls being in heat and those two girls (or at least Bonnie) are not thrilled with the idea of staying home especially when they see the boys leaving for the trail without them.

We never take females in heat on the trail with us. Its one of our policies to prevent unwanted litters. There are far too many ways for the musher to mess up out on the trail (or at the trail head) and if a male knows what hes doing it only takes seconds for the 'accident' to happen.
