Boarders Again?

I'm still looking forward to our summer winding down but I don't see it happening yet. I so enjoy the time spent in the yard, the peace, the quiet but when boarders come there is always a transition for the newbies.

We just received four new guys a few days ago and tonight is the first night they went to bed quietly. They aren't too terribly loud but a few were having a hard time settling in. Seems silly in that two of them have been our regulars and it was one of those two who were having the hardest time quieting down.

Having company in the yard makes our peaceful dog yard time a bit more strained but with the boarder yard fenced off from the others my kids can still have their free time without butting heads. The worst we have to deal with is a casual fence fight or dominant posturing.

My guys are pretty used to the company but this is the first year the new pups are having to figure things out. Hermes does not like strangers next to his spot one bit and Ive had almost as hard of a time getting him to settle as the boarders.

Boreas has had minor discomfort to his new neighbors and Remus has actually showed some dominance to our last group that was here for a few weeks. It was odd seeing that come from him. Ive filed that information away for later in case it becomes an issue on the trail.

I took this past Sunday completely off from office work to continue painting names on the dog truck. This is the very first time all the boxes have been claimed. Its a nice feeling...

There are still a few more names to paint on the outside, after that I can finish up some last minute repairs.

Chronos has his own box, as well as Spock and Buddy but most likely those three will be staying home this season.

We have a belief here that everything we do is as family and even though those three wont be able to make the trail they will still have their names on the truck and boxes waiting for transportation should they need it. I'm adamant about doing more summer runs next season so their boxes are sure to get some use then as well.

The interesting thing I realized while working is that this contraption has lasted us very well in the time we have put it to work. It was built by myself years ago with brand new wood and hardware and shows a bit of wear in a specific places due to how intensely we use it each season.

The issue that I had such a hard time wrapping my mind around is that I can lovingly take care of this 'beast', paint it, clean it, sand it, repair parts and patch up holes to make it good as new. As it continues to be gently used time and time again it softens like an old shoe and molds around us like an old dear friend.

I'm positive that this box will serve us well for many, many more years to come providing that it continues to get my attention and tlc, but the dogs... despite giving them love, food, more love, time, attention, brushing, even more love and mending their wounds they continue to grow old and frail no matter how much time we put into them. That aspect of life is so incredibly backwards...
