The kennel building has a new name! It will now be called the "Spock Shop" in honor of our beloved kennel founder Spock who passed away last year.
I still cant believe its been a year since hes been gone, honestly I'm still very much in shock and I'm not sure when I will be able to face the full truth of his passing. Even though he was peaceful when I found him, and I'm sure he is resting well watching over us, its so hard to realize that hes gone. It has helped being so busy this year but I still have a hard time talking about it...
His memorial will be up on the wall so everyone can read about his legacy and see his beautiful face. They can visit his cabin and see where he is buried on the property outside... all will know how deeply important his life is to us and how much we love him.
The building is a work of art. It is truly amazing what a wonderful job James and Mike have done on its construction. I am really excited to get it finished and am currently waiting on the windows to go in and the doors. The tin on the roof should be going up some time this week.
I want to thank everyone who played a part in getting it up so quickly. James, Mike, James L. and Leah have been awesome in so many ways. They have all worked so hard to see this dream become a reality. I also want to thank Gene Salzman for donating the windows, thanks Gene!! His generous donation will help bring a lot of light into the place and brighten everyones visit. He has also donated sections of boarder fence that will help spruce the outside area up and keep things looking very nice for our visitors.
We have so much to look forward to this winter and still so much to do! There isn't ice on the water bowls just yet but its not far off! We need to get a few more posts pounded for the new front fence and more pounded in the back before the ground freezes for the expansion of our foster yard. If funding comes in time we can have more fence put up in the back and have that area closed off before the snow flys.
Funding is coming in for insulated dog houses this week so our foster dogs can stay extra warm this winter. We are seeing quite a few pointer crosses come through the shelter and they don't have the best coats to keep them warm. But with these new insulated houses they will be nice and cozy.
So thank you to all who have donated, taken the time to see our foster dogs at the Yukon Quest show this summer or who are thinking of adopting a shelter dog. We and the dogs thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We would not be able to come as far as we have without EVERYONES help. Thank you sooooo much!!
