Calypso and I were fortunate to get in on the recent SNIP (Spay, Neuter Interiors Pets) clinic and see our favorite vet Dr. Eric Jayne! Its been hard to track him down since hes been moving about quite a bit. It was wonderful to hear that he is still doing a lot of spays and neuters in the bush and continuing to focus his time to that. There are so many out in the far reaches of Alaska that don't have vet services or the money to spay and neuter their huskies. It is a godsend to have Eric helping out with this monumental task.
Calypso handled her spay wonderfully and was really patient being in a strange building with so many other dogs. She woke up well from the surgery and is healing well...
There are many things I didn't know about her and her siblings when they came into this world, a fact realized when I look back at how intimately I knew their ancestors, but over time I am discovering new wonderful things to look forward to as we share our lives together.
Calypso appears to be a 'sender', or I am getting more sensitive to the receiving... when she was just waking up from her surgery I suddenly became extremely tired. And on the long drive afterwards I started getting nauseous just as Calypso must have been feeling at that moment. When I created a bit of distance from her and let her rest alone I started feeling much better...
At home she followed me slowly all around the dog yard while I filled water buckets and picked up poop, she was constantly at my feet. I let her sleep on the couch that evening and set up her doggy bed beside ours that night. She slept really well all the way through and is continuing to sleep comfortably under my desk.
She is a very sensitive girl, but very strong... its a pleasure for her to allow my pampering while she heals and in doing so I am getting to learn so much more about this tiny girl.
